Bay Area Open Carry

Is carrying an unloaded gun on one hip and two full magazines of ammo on the other safer than carrying a loaded gun with one round in the chamber?

ABC has the video.

No, because all guns should be treated as if they are loaded. Thus an "unloaded" gun is no more or less safe than a loaded one.

  2. Such a law will probably be the cause for a whole new version of "fastest gun in the West" where politely armed citizens will race to see who can be first to get a clip full of ammo out of its carrier, into the Glock and downrange at the perp.

  3. That is just silly California nonsense.

  4. No, carrying an unloaded gun is just dumb. That's not their fault though, it's the fault of California's gun laws.

Reasonable, common-sense gun control at work folks...

  5. I have to agree with Mike W. here. Do you really think that criminals would comply with this law? No.

Once again, it is just another law that only affects the law abiding.

  6. Of course the criminals aren't walking around OC'ing everywhere anyway.

As is the case with every law ever promulgated. So we should throw the rest of them out, too?

  8. California is a discriminatory-issue state. In some counties you have to be a movie star or rich, white contributor to the Sheriff's reelection campaign to get a license.

Carrying an unloaded gun is technically legal in Ca, although likely to get the same response as in the video--even if the police are well aware both it and you are legal.

Ohioans for Concealed Carry used open carry walks as part of their strategy towards gaining non-discriminatory carry licenses, and occasionally organizes them when appropriate for local issues.

Did you notice the cop replacing the guy's empty magazine backwards?

  9. democommie, Thanks for pointing out that all laws "only affect the law abiding." The gun guys are so fond of that one they can't help but repeating it at every opportunity. In Henigan's book that came out last year he handled the fallacy of that remark very well. Basically his idea is that the laws are aimed at the law abiding in order to make it more difficult for their guns to end up in criminal hands.

He also makes it very clear how these slogans got started and the false premises upon which they're based. Then the members of the grass-roots gun movement start repeating and repeating these things until they take on a type of credibility. It's fascinating, but at the same time, embarrassing for otherwise intelligent people to mindlessly repeat things that are so easily debunked.

I did. It was one of those laugh, then cringe moments, when I realized that the highly trained professional was inserting a magazine into a gun while the muzzle was sweeping him and everything behind him.

I guess it's a good thing he checked to make sure it was unloaded. *face palm*

Ya, that is basically the mindset of every anti-gun activist. Keep putting restrictions and requirements on a right until it becomes so difficult for the law abiding to comply that you have a de facto gun ban. Of course, at that point you will have done nothing to take the guns out of the hands of the criminal. What follows next is a rise in the overall violent crime rate.

And yet the gun laws (if taken to Henigan's extreme) make all gun owners into criminals.
