Guns are Bad News - An Example

A 27-year-old woman was grabbed from behind while walking west of downtown Athens early Saturday morning and assaulted at gunpoint, according to Athens-Clarke police.

A man grabbed her, forced her to the ground and pointed a pistol at her, while trying to remove her clothes, police said. As she struggled with her attacker, other people approached, and the suspect grabbed the victim's purse and fled.
All's well that ends well, right? The cops arrested the guy with the gun and purse. He'll probably go away for a good while judging by the charges. But where do you suppose the gun came from, the gun which could have easily turned this into a murder?

The pistol he had was stolen in a car break-in the day before, police said.
So, because somebody thought it so important to keep a gun in his car, this would-be rapist and potential murderer was armed. And this is happening in every city all over the country. Gun advocates convince each other of the necessity of keeping guns and they continually flow into the hands of criminals.

An automobile is not a secure enough place to keep a gun. Neither is the night stand of your bedroom. Responsible gun onwers don't make theft that easy.

Probably the gun owner was entering one of those notorious gun-free zones and was forced by law to leave the gun in the vehicle or risk a felony or criminal trespass.

  2. my thoughts exactly FWM. The gun owner was most likely trying to be responsible and follow the law by not carrying the weapon into a gun free zone.

Of course if we are going to blame the gun owner for the theft, why not blame the woman for the attempted rape? Obviously she was not in a secure enough place to prevent her from being attacked. Responsible women don't make attempted rape so easy right?

  3. You guys love to jump to the "blame the woman for the rape" trick.

We were talking however about the improperly secured firearm that ended up with a criminal.

You guys keep doing that and then you blame the gun-free zone.
