Washington DC Drug and Gun Bust

The Washington Post reports on a major undercover operation that netted millions of dollars worth of drugs and 161 weapons.

Why do you think we can't go to the last legal owner of each of those guns and find out what went wrong?  Don't you think that would lead to the arrest of some professional straw buyers and crooked FFL dealers?  Wouldn't putting people like that out of business be good for everyone?

The gun-rights folks have fought against the multiple sales reporting laws, which would prevent much of this gun trafficking before it happens. But they also obstruct efforts to investigate after the fact.  Why is that?

What's your opinion?  Please leave a comment.

I am still waiting to see the legislation that will amend the gun control act of '68 to report multiple sales of long guns. Once someone actually rights it and introduces it, I'll read it and decide rather or not to "fight" it.

So where's the bill? Still waiting....

Well, since Greg Camp is apparently grading papers or having his HitchcokHat blocked, let me just say, for him, that allathem gunz and drugz are "statistically negligible.". He would be full of shit to say that of course, but that would not slow him down.

Since some significant fraction of both parties in Congress are gonna find themselves "In the crosshairs--Hello Gabi Giffords!" of the NRA and will see themselves portrayed as "caving to the profit centers of the NONGUN industry", that won't be happening anytime soon. Maybe after the "Tree of teh Burnin' Stoopit" is watered with the blood of public officials, but prolly not before.

  3. Mikeb302000,

The news article reported a connection to Mexican drug gangs. It's possible that the guns came across the border illegally from Mexico, as do many of the drugs that the gangs bring in. What we see here is that law enforcement did its job, and I doubt that any new laws would have helped.
