Armed while Old and White, Flabby and Crabby - 5

Again reposted from Penigma:

Because gun nuts are just so fanciful, you couldn't make them up, and because they live (and sometimes kill) to prove that fact continues stranger than fiction.
In aid of demonstrating that despite their loud and repetitious rhetoric that they live each and every day, safely handling their firearms, in order to protect themselves and the rest of us --- they are who we need protecting from, but they will never admit it, no matter how obvious.
The problem of course is that saying your safe doesn't make it true. Having RECENTLY seen a hog in a certain vicinity is not the same as following safe firearms procedures where you KNOW where the bullet is going, and you KNOW what you are shooting at. Which is why this qualifies for another 'Armed while Old and White, Flabby and Crabby'. 'Minutes before' isn't even close to being good enough to qualify as safe shooting. But these are the guys who loves them their gunz, and the larger, heavier the firepower the better - because they are using guns to cope with their inadequacies - although not very well. This is why not everyone who wants a gun, especially to carry in public, should have one, much less more than one. EVER. Anywhere.

It is not surprising that it is in Florida, the Gunshine state this occurred...
The man in the video at the end is the antithesis of the typical NRA gun loon who is armed while old and white, flabby and crabby; he is the safe, competent, doesn't need a gun to compensate for his deficiencies kind of gun guy.

Hog Hunter Accidentally Shoots Girlfriend In Florida: Steven Egan Fires At Lisa Simmons
The Huffington Post | By Posted: 04/23/2012 10:12 am Updated: 04/23/2012 10:12 am Hog
Steven Egan mistakenly shot his girlfriend Lisa Simmons on a hunting trip, because he thought she was a wild hog.
A Florida hunter accidentally shot his girlfriend thinking that she was his target -- a wild hog.
Cops said that Brandon man Steven Egan, 52, was hunting from a tent in Flagler County on Saturday when Egan heard a noise that he thought was similar to that of his prey. He took a shot at it, not realizing his significant other wasn't in the tent with him, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The shot sent a .30-caliber rifle bullet through both of 52-year-old Lisa Simmons' legs. Simmons was airlifted to the hospital where she was recovering from surgery on Sunday, the News-Journal reported.
Egan maintained that he fired in the first place because he had seen a real hog just minutes before the accidental shooting, WFTV reported. No charges were filed.

  3. What we have here is another "Writing While a Prejudiced Prig" article. Dog Gone, since you love critical thinking, why don't you tell us where in any of the news articles you found out that the shooter is old, white, crabby, or flabby. His age is given, but if you're calling fifty-two old, you'd better be careful. Better yet, why don't you go down to Florida and shout, "Fifty-two is old!" That's a video I'd enjoy watching.

  5. Aw, Greg.....old is a state of mind where you start shooting at things without seeing them first. As to the racial component of the story, you are correct it isn't mentioned here. I did however check a variety of accounts of this event, and of course, the telephone exists in our wonderful modern era, for fact checking as well.

Thank you Laci for cross posting this.

    1. So you write a claim without evidence, I call you on it, and you tell me that I'm being too sensitive, but also I need to do your work for you? I tell you what--why don't you define what critical thinking means to you. You remind me of Humpty Dumpty in "Through the Looking Glass." You choose what words mean for you, but you should share the meaning with the rest of us. Something like Democommie in that. . . .

Prudishness is a hallmark of many gunloons though they often enjoy looking at scantily-clad models photographed with firearms.

    1. It also seems that you need to learn standards of evidence. A small number of incidents with one type of person does not mean that the whole group is of the same type. You've heard of hasty generalizations? Do you realize that your comments would be called racist if you substituted black for white?

      Delete
    2. Nobody's saying "the whole group is of the same type." But, there is a reason for the stereotype.

      Delete
    3. Greg is obfuscating mightily.

Standards of evidence when applied to matters of public health are quite often the product of inference. And rightly so. After all, it is often impossible to measure each person individually. As a result, if we have a large enough sample and a positive correlation--it is fully permissable to derive inferences. This is how medicines are evaluated and approved and this is how diagnoses are often made.

Are there outliers? Sure. That's why every medicine comes with warnings.

      Delete
    4. Jadegold, I'm waiting to see your evidence. You've asserted just today that "gun loons" are fat white men. You've claimed that they are failures in life. You've claimed that they can't keep relationships. Those aren't inferences. They're hasty generalizations, and if you made them about other groups--gays, blacks, etc.--you'd rightly be called a racist.

But here's a question for you: If you keep digging that hole deeper, how are you going to get the dirt out?

      Delete
    5. The evidence is plain.

Go to a gunshow. Go to the NRA hatefest. Go to a range. One can just be in the company of gunloons and have their cholesterol elevated by 30 points.

These are not hasty generalizations; they are observable facts.

Here's another gunloon in trouble: http://whitetrashintrouble.com/coach-john-zahradnik-of-archbald-pa-arrested-for-allegedly-arguing-with-umpire-and-threatening-parent-with-a-gun/

    6. I do those things and more, Jadegold, with the exception of an NRA meeting. You need to get out more. I've seen people of many races and both sexes and all manner of body types buying guns. But I'm just reporting what I've seen, not making broad claims.

      Delete
    7. Greg: You misunderstand. I'm sure that " people of many races and both sexes and all manner of body types " purchase firearms.

It's just that most gunloons are fat, white men. The vast majority.

    8. So you've created a class without defining it--gun loons--and you're making a claim about who fits into the class. Cute moving of the goal posts there. Please, give us a rigorous definition of "gun loons."

      Delete
  8. One must remember that gunloons are gunloons precisely because they are failures in life. A gun, they believe, provides them with the respect they couldn't earn.

  9. I do think the relationship between the man and his girlfriend is probably doomed. Even if she forgives him for shooting her how does he explain he thought she was a pig?

Gunloons rarely have personal relationships and if they do, they rarely last.

    2. It is a factual demographic that the NRA is composed largely of older white men. Observation indicates many of them appear to fit the demographic of crabby and flabby. A good look around the NRA conventions supports that candid observation.

I'm wondering if this guy ever carried a hand gun in his belt, thinking he was cool. Wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to find he keeps a loaded gun next to the bed, and gen-U-WHINELY believes he is in control of that loaded dangerous weapon EVERY DARN minute he is asleep.

I'd also take bets that the shooter tells people all the time how safe he is -- even after doing this. Do you wonder at what point from the NOISE after he shot the woman that it dawned on him he had not shot a feral hog?

  10. http://www.adl.org/mwd/gunshow.asp

    Excerpts:

Two men sit at a table next to the door, one of them extremely overweight. They make sure people "check" their guns at the door. This does not mean handing them over, but rather insuring that they are not loaded. When I indicate I have no guns, they lose all interest in me, waving me down to the women at the end of the table, who accept my five dollar entrance fee and stamp my hand.

    ......
Exhibitors chat with attendees, while kids run about, although the warning signs suggest they should be supervised. Though there is some variety, the people you see tend to be so similar in many respects that they form a recognizable "type": moderate pot-bellies hidden beneath red or blue plaid shirts, blue jeans, a beard grizzled with grey, a gimme cap. A few people walk around in camouflage, but not very many. There are plenty of women, none of them unaccompanied. Almost everybody is white. It is unusual to see blacks at these gun shows. Throughout the afternoon I see only one black exhibitor, a woman selling, of all things, cologne, and a group of four young black men. Even when J. J. Johnson, a local militia leader who is black, is referred to, he is referred to as "that black guy."

    1. There's an interesting claim. Why would you go to gun shows and ranges? You hate guns and gun owners, given the statements that you've made. But let's think about the claim:

      1. It is either true or false, but it's likely impossible to support, since I don't have any receipts to show yo, and neither side believes the other.

      2. Are you going to ranges and shows to spy on enemy territory? Are you trying to make gotcha videos for the Brady Bunch? Do please show your face so we can avoid you.

He has a hard time not conflating. Gunzloonz are not the entire population of people who own firearms--just as alcoholics are not the entire population of those who consume beverage alcohol. Gunzloonz are that sizable fraction of the the population who own firearms AND are obsessed wit teh gunz. 1. Thus the reason that the gun control side advocates for disarmament--they want to take support away from others, having none of their own.

  14. The general problem is twofold: there are lots of people that are not willing to be responsible. The morons that do stupid things with their firearms come from that lot. And then we have the elitists that insist on telling other people what to do. The gun-control advocates come from that lot.

What the elitists cannot grasp is that there is a third lot of people that are responsible and refuse to tell other people what to do. This lot of people do not commit crimes and they do not accidentally shoot people. They are responsible citizens.

Of course the elitists cannot understand how responsible citizens could ever restrain themselves and be, well, responsible. That's called projection. The elitists must exert as much influence over other people as possible. And because that is the only way they function, they assume that everyone else must operate the same way. And what could be more frightening than people with guns that would actually have the force to, well, force their will upon others?

If you carefully evaluate violent (and accidental) incidences where the aggressor used a firearm, you will find almost all of the aggressors were either criminals or irresponsible people. What you will not find are thousands of responsible citizens harming the nation.

But why let the facts get in the way when you have an agenda?
