Missouri 15-Year-old Dead - No One Held Accountable

Logan Allen
Logan Allen

Local news reports

Logan, 15, died early Wednesday morning at University Hospital in Columbia as the result of a gunshot wound. He was shot in the back of the head around 2 p.m. Tuesday at a home on West Jackson Street in Edina. He was airlifted to the Columbia hospital.

The incident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control. Investigators have not released any information about the incident.

No details, but we can figure on a few things.  In Missouri people don't like to be told what to do with their guns.  They don't want to be told whom they can sell them to or how they have to be stored.  They raise their kids with all the gun safety information they need.

But, when it goes horribly wrong, do they take responsibility for the mess?  No, they don't.  They call it a tragic accident.  They tell us how statistically rare it is.  And they go on their merry way.

The owner of the gun should be in jail for failure to secure the weapon properly.  It's that simple.

The weapon involved was reportedly a .22-caliber firearm."

So it sounds to me that police are taking this quite seriously. A whole 24 hours and no one has been charged yet. The case has been bumped up to being investigated by state level law enforcement. This isn't CSI where everything is solved in an hour's time including commercials.

    1. Nonsense. The determination of whose gun it was does not take longer than a few minutes to a couple of hours. The rest is wiggle room for them to decide if the responsible person merits a break or not.

    2. I've used such methods in the past during my deployment Mike. Actually there are some that work in just a minute or so. However, since this is a potential felony case, it was likely sent to a certified lab to insure the evidence isn't challenged on that basis.
After all, look at how the police mishandled physical evidence in the Zimmerman case.

  2. No, we can't figure those things out. The police likely want to do their job without waiting for people like you to tell them how to do it.

  3. A fine young man, worthlessly cut down in the flower of youth. Why? Because people are playing with firearms. I've never been taught gun safety by my Dad or at a shooting range, but let me give it a shot. I am assuming that any animal or any person that gets shot by a gun is in grave danger of death, maiming or serious injury.

    1. Never play with a gun.
    2. Never point a gun at another living creature.
    3. Don't get a gun out unless you are cleaning or maintaining the weapon or you intend to use it.
    4. As far as guns for muppets, pre-teens and high school kids, always keep them locked up, out-of-sight and doubly secured in a locked room.
    5. Kids should not have access to firearms without a responsible, sober adult present.

Did I miss anything important? Maybe I have a future teaching gun safety.

Think of the young ones in your life. Maybe your boy is only twelve or just three years old. Eight years old. How would you feel if you had to attend his funeral or memorial service? Someone's heart is breaking over this madness.
