University of Alabama Gun Policy Revised Aug. 16

The Crimson White serving the University of Alabama since 1894
The effects of a national movement surrounding gun control have trickled down to The University of Alabama’s bylaws in the form of a revised gun policy reinforcing a campus-wide ban on guns.
The University’s gun policy was revised Aug. 16 after a new state law, which went into effect Aug. 1, and left many confused about whether guns could potentially be allowed on campus, in dorms or at athletic events.
“UA has thoroughly reviewed the impact of the state’s new gun law on our policies and procedures regarding the possession of guns and dangerous weapons on our campus,” Cathy Andreen, director of UA Media Relations, said in an emailed statement. “UA believes that its policies and procedures comply with the state law. As a result, UA will not allow the possession of guns or dangerous weapons on our campus, except under the limited circumstances set out in its policy.”
The policy maintains a strict ban on guns for all but pre-approved personnel and in all places except for vehicles, under select circumstances.

It sounds more like a clarification or a reiteration than a revision. What do you think?

And what do you make of the title of the newspaper. It brings up images of hooded KKK riders, don't you think?

  1. Those are the colors of the school's team, and said paper has a history of criticizing all-white fraternities. But by all means, go for the cheap slur.

    1. I've heard of "Crimson Tide" but I don't know what that means either.

    2. When a wise man doesn't know what something means, he looks it up or keeps his mouth shut. You, by contrast, blither.

    3. And so, rather than look something up you use it to defame the paper based on your own damaged preconceptions.

    4. I've heard of the Deacons of Defense but I don't know what that means either. I'm guessing since a deacon is some type of church-ey thing that it must have been a KKK like group of fat old white men terrifying blacks in the name of religion!

  2. Hey, it's Alabama! Forget that it's the schools colors and the colors on the state's flag. That's not why they call the newspaper that--no, it's because the whole state is sub-neanderthal racists. Every person. Well, except for a few highly enlightened progressives who have magically evolved beyond the sub-standard stock that needs to be eliminated from the gene pool.

    Right Mike?

  3. So why are we talking about this again? Didn't we do this last week or so? It looks like the school is continuing its claim that it can restrict firearms possession even though it conflicts with state law. Some entities seem to think that the law doesn't apply to them. For example, the Mall of America violates state law in regards to carry on its grounds. It will likely take a court challenge to get that fixed.
The U of A also seems to believe for some reason that its a private university and can ban guns on its "property". While it can penalize employees and students with administrative punishments, it will also likely take a court challenge to "clarify" the law.

  4. ONly the gunsuck morons want guns on campus. Undergrads who are disappointed in their grades are a huge issue. I've run programs in the past where I reviewed allegations of cheating, and handed out failing grades in classes. Pissed off more than a few students.
