Ex-Marine from Indiana Takes Gun to New York

via TTAG, where Farago blames the laws of NY rather than the stupid gun owners who break those laws.

I find it hard to believe that none of the Armed Intelligentsia commenters have the consistency or integrity to put the blame where it belongs, on the gun owners who are so ignorant of differing laws state to state that they do this.

Try blaming the gun owner who leaves a gun under the pillow when some kids break in and steal it. In that case, ONLY the thief can be blamed, according to the gun-rights extremists.

What do you think? Are these guys all over the place or what?

Oh, noes! But what about "States Rights"!? I thought you guys hated the feds shovin' gun control up your ass and down your throat; so is it okay, now that you see a law you like?

  3. DC - I thought you were all for the Feds taking over gun control. Is it not ok now that you see a law you do not like?

  4. Democommie,

Haven't we addressed this already? States only have such rights as do not belong to the Federal government or the people. This isn't a question of mandating motorcycle helmets or the celebration of Martin Luther King Day; it's a specifically ennumerated right in the Bill of Rights. National reciprocity is merely an attempt to correct the current problem.

  5. At least FWM doesn't try to justify that blatant contradiction like Greg. Sometimes I think Greg thinks he can baffle us with bullshit.

Well, gosh, assnonymous, in the first place, HR822 is gunz DEcontrol. Secondly, the law is pretty much designed to punish states that don't kowtow to the NRA and its gunzloonz followers*. Lastly, there are LOTS of laws--fedeeral, state and local--that I don't like. If I choose to disobey them, like the idiot marine in Indiana, I'll take my lumps if I get caught.

It's more than a bit ironic that three staunch individualists will embrace the nannystatist meme in a heartbeat if it is seen to be helping them. Sorta reminds me of Blimp Rushbo being happy with the ACLU weighing in on the right to privacy case around his oxyvcontin purchases.

  7. Mikeb302000,

The claim that national reciprocity violates states' rights is nonsense. An ennumerated right of the people isn't a right of a state.
